Educating adults about the dangers of substance use.

Parents360 Rx is a program developed by the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids to increase parents’ knowledge of substance use and improve a parent’s confidence in their ability to speak with youth about substance use, particularly prescription drugs. Parents360 Rx is available for any school, community group or individual interested in hosting an informational session to educate adults about the dangers of substance use, with an emphasis on prescription drugs.

Why host a Parents360 Rx event?

Prescription and over-the-counter medications (ex. Adderall, Vicodin, OxyContin) account for a majority of the top drugs used by 12th graders in the past year. The Parents360 Rx community education program increases an adult’s knowledge of substance use and confidence in their ability to speak with youth about the subject. As a result, more conversations are happening at home and in the community to deter drug use.

With your help, we can do even more. You might be surprised to learn that just by talking about the issue with youth, you are taking a step toward drug prevention. The majority of substance-free adolescents credit parents for the decision not to use illegal substances.

How do I run a Parents360 Rx program?

Hosts can use the Parents360 Rx Action Toolkit at meetings of groups to which they belong, such as parent-teacher organizations, faith-based groups or the workplace. The kit may also be used in more traditional Parents360 venues where there are stringent time constraints (e.g. Rotary Club meetings). Or, hosts may wish to invite a few friends, family, neighbors or any group of concerned adults to their home or to another place in their community where they are comfortable such as a library, school, place of worship or local restaurant.

The Kit makes it very easy to share the video and have a meaningful, productive discussion about the issues raised within. All that is required is a computer connected to a projector or a DVD player that is connected to a TV.
