Promoting conversations with children about the importance of living healthy lives has lasting impact and is a critical part of addressing our children’s mental health. Simply having regular conversations with your students is an effective tool to prevent drug use and show your support. It is also important to know the signs and symptoms of mental health concerns in your students and where to get help when needed.

The Health and Opioid Abuse Prevention Education (HOPE) Curriculum is a K-12 curriculum developed for schools to meet the requirements of HB 367. The HOPE curriculum is a series of lessons, assessments and learning materials to develop students’ functional knowledge, attitudes and necessary skills to prevent drug abuse. The HOPE lessons are designed to be part of a larger substance abuse prevention unit within a school’s health education curriculum.

Prescription Drug Education
 

House Bill 367 requires the Governor's Cabinet Opiate Action Team to make recommendations for instruction in prescription opioid abuse prevention and submit those recommendations to the Department of Education to publish the recommendations online. It also requires the board of education of each local district to select a health curriculum that includes instruction on the dangers of prescription opioid abuse.
